We must tighten up - Laws

Fri, 23 Oct 15:29:46 2009

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has blamed his side's latest defeat on another individual defensive error.

Laws is anxious his players cut out the mistakes which have proved costly so far this season, with skipper Darren Purse and latterly teenager Mark Beevers coming in for criticism.

Beevers, 19, was partly responsible for Jon Parkin's winner in the defeat to Preston in midweek.

Laws said: "I think he was fatigued a little bit towards the end on Tuesday and that's where the mistake came from.

"But he's a good player and I'm sure there will be a lot more good things to come from him."

Laws added: "We're not keeping a tight ship at the back and that's something we have to correct. It was a firm foundation for us last season."

  1. I wasn't in favour of Sturrock going then and I'm not in favour of Laws going now !
However, I would like the answer to a few questions.
    1) If Simek is now fit has he lost his ability ?
    2) Week in week out last season Hinds did all that was asked of him !
    3) If all are fit what about a back four of Spurr/Hinds/Wood/Simek ?
    4) Give Buxton a try as a holding mid-fielder as we are definitely short of a tackle in that department and basically by-passed. If our mid-field reserves can't get in now then they never will.
    5) Unfortunately we don't have enough goals individually or collectively.
    6) It is easy to see that both Woods and Spurr (who I view as Owls) will hold out on
signing new contracts. They have a career to progress and it is not going to be easy to keep them at a unfinanced club in an unprogressive team. HANG ON WEDNESDAY.
    7) Are the envisaged investors still about.
TO OTHERS - I SOMETIMES DO NOT APPLAUD, BUT I DO NOT BOO MY OWN.
