Defender Danny O'Donnell and striker Anthony Elding look set to overcome injuries in time for Crewe's trip to managerless Notts County.
O'Donnell limped out of training on Monday with a slight groin strain but, after responding to treatment, he is expected to resume training ahead of the clash.
With on-loan centre-half Harry Worley (ankle) definitely out, youngster Harry Davis is on standby to make his first-team debut should O'Donnell suffer a set-back.
Elding has had blood drained from under a toe nail after sustaining the injury in the derby defeat to Port Vale and should be in contention for a starting place, especially if Calvin Zola is ruled out.
Zola suffered a groin strain last weekend and, although scans have revealed the injury is not as bad as initially feared, he is only rated at 50/50.
French goalkeeper Bertrand Bossu may play a part if he chooses to accept the short-term deal that has been offered to him.
