A second-half goal by Sulley Muntari has given Internazionale a 1-0 Serie A win over Juventus at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The result extends Inter's lead at the top of the league to four points, although city rivals Milan can close the gap to one with a win at Torino on Sunday.
In the day's other game in Italy's top flight Fiorentina beat Udinese 4-2.
Inter created the best chances in an entertaining encounter that saw Juve play some good football but rarely threaten to score.
Zlatan Ibrahmovic missed a host of chances while he created opportunities for the returning Adriano and the impressive Muntari that stand-in keeper Alex Manninger did well to save.
When 'Ibra' fired wide for a second time after being put clean through it seemed that Juve would succeed in frustrating their host.
But a lucky break for Jose Mourinho's side saw Ghana midfielder Muntari arrive unmarked at the far post to tap in Ibra's mis-hit 73rd-minute shot.
Inter's Brazilian shot-stopper Julio Cesar made an acrobatic stop to deny Del Piero a headed equaliser and the home side hung on for a vital win.
Juve stay third after the defeat but could slip out of the top five if results go against them on Sunday.
In Saturday's earlier match, Riccardo Montolivo netted his first goals of the Serie A season to help Fiorentina come from behind to seal a 4-2 home win over Udinese.
The Florence club moved up to joint-fourth after the Italy midfielder slotted home a crisp shot to make it 2-1 midway through the second half before confidently doubling his tally.
Early season pacesetters Udinese, who have now lost three league games on the bounce, bossed the first half and took the lead just before the half hour through a 20-metre strike from Antonio Floro Flores.
Adrian Mutu's chipped penalty brought the hosts level seven minutes after the break before Montolivo's double and Alberto Gilardino's tap-in took them clear.
Substitute Antonio Di Natale cut the deficit with a late penalty after Gianluca Comotto was dismissed for handling on the line but it was all too late for Udinese, who have dropped down to seventh after 13 matches.

JUVE is simply best Italian club, they don't need to spend too much to win, or like Inter that spend too much thinking they'll win the champions league, sorry to say to inter fans i think u guys have to wait 4 more year to get to the top like JUVE and MILAN. 46 year ago the last time when INTER won champions league so let's see if Mourinho can save them. Mourinho is a normal coach like others, he only inheritated a good team so nothing special.
jose mourinho is the best manager in the world...

Calcopoli IS the reason why Juve and Milan have won everything and Inter couldn't win anything! If Juve and Milan hadn't fixed matches than maybe Inter would have won sometimes but they just weren't allowed. That whole affair showed who really played fair and wasn't....If a club fixes matches than it's not really a champion, is it?
Muntari is best...well done inter better luck juve....
What is this farza ?
Inter is nothing without Z.Ibrahimović.
EPL is absolute class, you can tell that every player in EPL plays for the badge and name on their shirt
serie A is absolute class, you can tell that every player in SERIE A plays for the badge on their shirt and not the name on the back (like the epl)
CONGRATS, JOSE, THE SPECIAL ONE! THOUGH WINNING IS A CUSTOMARY THING FOR YOU, I STILL ENJOY EVERY ONE OF IT!
Mourinho is a wonder. He knows quality footballers. He brought Muntari from Portsmouth to replace Viera and just imagine Muntari's performance. Muntari is one of the best players in the world.
It could have gone either way, but at the end the lucky team won.Juve played better football and make only one mistake...that lead to inter lucky goal...Did you see Moratti...how he smile? at the referee final whistle. As many of you say and i agree...if Juve were not involved thank to Moggi in calciopoli, Inter would never won the scudetto and never will...BIANCONERI PER SEMPRE
hey guys don't list to that twit, Mourinho inheritated a winning team, he didn't have to start from scratch like some less fortunate. Inter played better thatn Juve who seemed off colour. Plus I wonder how the game had Juve not lost their creative central midfielder, Tiago, in the first 5 mins. The list of Juve players missing could make for an alternative team, Trezeguet, Zanetti, Buffon, Zebina, Andrade, now Tiago. Honour to Inter but there's a long way to go after this.
muntari muntari muntari muntari muntari
hey guys, remember 1 thing.....inter is nothing without JOSE MOURINHO
