Serie A - Round-up: Torino hold Milan

Eurosport - Sun, 23 Nov 21:36:00 2008

Milan have been held to a 2-2 draw at Torino thanks to a late Alessandro Rosina penalty that foiled their attempt to close the gap on Serie A leaders Internazionale.

FOOTBALL Serie A, Milan Torino Pato Pisano - 0

The diminutive attacking midfielder clipped a cool spot-kick past Christian Abbiati after Kakha Kaladze handled his cross.

While the decision was harsh by referee Stefano Farina - the ball spun up off Kaladze midriff then struck his arm - the result was fair in an even and exciting game that either side could have won.

Torino took the lead on 25 minutes, when Roberto Stellone headed in Rosina's left-wing cross to cap off a good quarter of pressure for the hosts.

The Rossoneri woke up and levelled soon afterwards thanks to Alexandre Pato, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net on 29 minutes after the home defence stood still as they played Clarence Seedorf offside.

Carlo Ancelotti's men extended their lead five minutes later when Ronaldinho curled an excellent free kick past Matteo Sereni and into the top-right corner.

Milan had several chances to extend their lead, most notably through Pato on two occasions, while Blerim Dzemaili fired just wide after a mazy dribble.

Rolando Bianchi should have set Stellone up for a second but opted to shoot from an acute angle after being set up by Rosina, but Torino got their leveller through the latter's penalty and Milan were hanging on at the end.

Earlier on Sunday, Roma sealed back-to-back Serie A wins for the first time this season with a 3-0 demolition of Lecce at Via del Mare.

Goals from Mirko Vucinic, Francesco Totti and Juan put the result beyond doubt by the 49th minute to continue the club's resurgence following the derby win over Lazio.

Until the last two matches, the capital club had only won once in 10 games, leading to calls for boss Luciano Spalletti to be sacked.

But Roma were dominant in the win and showed the kind of form that led them to challenge Internazionale for the title in the past two seasons.

Montenegro forward Vucinic refused to celebrate against his former club when he put the Giallorossi ahead with a low, 10th-minute finish across Lecce keeper Francesco Benussi after a clever through ball by Totti.

Brazil defender Juan doubled the lead on 38 minutes when he finished from close range after a loose ball spun to him on the left-hand side of the penalty area.

Roma captain Totti sealed the victory three minutes after the second-half restart with a cool, chipped finish after Matteo Brighi played him through.

Vucinic also hit the crossbar, while Julio Baptista, Rodrigo Taddei and Daniele De Rossi all had good chances to increase the visitors' lead.

The win puts Roma up to 15th place and although they have a game in hand over most sides in the division.

In Sunday afternoon's other matches, Napoli missed a chance to join Milan in second after being held to a 2-2 home draw by Cagliari.

Daniele Conti scored a stoppage-time equaliser for the Sardinians after Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi seemed to have won it with a late free kick.

Cagliari's Diego Lopez had scored in the 66th minute to cancel out Slovakia midfielder Marek Hamsik's first-half strike.

Lucky Lazio moved to joint fifth after former Manchester City midfielder Ousmane Dabo scored a late equaliser against Genoa in Rome.

Dabo's long-range shot was fumbled by keeper Rubinho on 80 minutes after Diego Milito had put Genoa in front with his 11th goal of the season 11 minutes previously.

The Argentine striker also had a goal disallowed and missed a penalty.

Bologna, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by Palermo , bottom club Chievo lost 2-0 at home to Siena, Reggina beat Atalanta 3-1 and Sampdoria eased to a 3-0 home win over Catania.
