Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber has undergone surgery after he broke his right leg in a cycling crash during his own outdoor adventure event in Tasmania.
Webber, 32, who drives for the Red Bull team, was cycling near Port Arthur in southern Tasmania when he collided with a vehicle.
Webber was competing in his own charity event, the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge, a 250-kilometre (155-mile) challenge using mountain bikes, kayaks and trekking, when the accident happened.
"The surgery is complete, a pin inserted and the recovery begins," Event Director Geoff Donohue confirmed.
Despite reports of more serious injuries, including possible multiple bone fractures, Donohue said the broken leg is the Red Bull driver's only problem.
"He has a little bit of a graze on his left forearm, but he has had full scans and everything else is clear," he said of Webber. "He'll be in hospital for at least three days, for sure under a week."
Webber was airlifted from the scene near Port Arthur to the Royal Hobart Hospital, and later transferred to Hobart Private Hospital.
It is understood he will be out of action for at least six weeks, with Donohue confirming that Webber will surely miss Red Bull's scheduled test at Jerez next month.
"He might miss out on a little bit of testing but at this stage that's about all," he said.

hello my little f1 bum chums it marnio here from peru.
mr hamiltons son say he stay with mclaren men for life. that nice for him but what do mclaren men say? you see mclaren is now german owned. the parent company is the mercedes benz which is the german. the engine is the german engine. everything about the team is the german. mr hamiltons son now the swiss gentleman he eat much cheese and sings in the morning at mountains. mr hamiltons father is also now the swiss man. in fact there nothing british about this team at all. even the man who tidy up the garage after the race has moved to switzerland with his mother. switzerland is owned by the german. my friends the whole team is GERMAN - and guess what - so is mr glock. now you see why the time stand still for mr glock on the last lap. like he in the time warp. not even the people abducted by the alien lose the amount of time he lost on that last lap. IT IS A DISGRACE!!!

Mr T says: You get well soon Mark! I suspect lewis.great isnt a real Lewis Hamilton fan. Wouldnt surprise me if you were actually a Hamilton hater and are just trying to make brits and Hamilton fans look bad! Either way "fan" or not take your poisonous filth elsewhere!
Oh yes I know I spelt painful wrong.
Oh and lewis.great don't dare say I am not proud of being British.
I am a Hammy fan but lewis.great you are way out of line here. So what if Weber criticised Hammy, what difference does that make?
Grow up and realise that this guy is gonna have a pianfull rcovery and I personally wish all the best.
It really saddens me as someone of English birth to see the attitude of my fellow countrymen in slagging off Webber. Perhaps it says something about our national psyche that we have to cling to the achievements of our occaisional heros (LH) and belittle anyone from a country that poses a challenge. This is probably a result of getting flogged by Australians at pretty much every other sport, most notably cricket for the last two decades.
I bet if Lewis was from the Cocus Islands he wouldn't have got the drive in the first place and certainly wouldn't be regarded as the Messiah as he currently is.
I personally would love to see LH and MW in the same car for a reality check.
somehow, there will be a way for webbber to blame hamilton for this
