Brawn: Schumacher will not return

Ross Brawn is convinced Michael Schumacher is not interested in beginning a new career in F1 with Mercedes Grand Prix - although he added that his top priority is to engage "two experienced drivers" for 2010.

"The issue now haunts the media, I know - but there is nothing in it," 54-year-old Brawn told German newspaper Bild.

"The media are trying to put together a dream. Michael would have returned to the cockpit for Ferrari, but only temporarily. He has no ambitions to start a new career.

"If we get a combination of two equally strong drivers, then the strategy will be different than if you have a winner like Michael.

"Following Button's move to McLaren, we will think differently. My desire is to find two experienced drivers. Nico Rosberg has more than three years in Formula 1, so I count him to be experienced.

"I do not want a novice who must find their way around racetracks, because we have very few opportunities to test drivers now. Performance without much practice is therefore the task. The good thing is we are not in a hurry."

Schumacher's manager Willi Weber has insisted that the 91-times grand prix-winner "has not said anything to me personally about contact with Mercedes over a driver's contract", and Brawn agreed that there is no real substance behind the story - even if the two do keep in regular contact.

"I am occupied with nothing but the new season," Brawn added. "I'm very proud, because there is a great tradition and history behind Mercedes. This year started at zero and ended with the championship title. Now the icing is on the cake.

"I do not like predictions, and the other teams do not sleep. We were 2009 world champions, and with Mercedes as a partner, we are in an even better position for 2010.

"I dare not even think about becoming world champions two years in a row, but I can look happy and calm towards the future now that we are real silver arrows."

  8. i cant see michael coming back into f1 if he could not­ step into the ferrari when massa had his tradgic­ accident then what makes people think that he will be­ able to drive for brawn mercadaes.he has done what he­ has in his career but to try and make a come back would­ be a pipe dream on his part ,now that button is away to­ mclaren there is a seat so there is bound to be­ speculation.come on hamilton and button will have a­ great year ,plus good to have to british champions in­ same team gogogogog Mclaren.......................

    Lewis and Nico would make a dream duo for Mercedes,­ Heidfield is unlikely to be signed, they have already­ stated they dont want just Germany drivers in their­ line up. Schumi is too old to start driving for a new­ team, when he couldnt drive for Ferrari this year. Kimi­ is a possibility but he is too expensive for a new team­ in F1. Brawn said he wanted experienced drivers who can­ win races given a powerful car. Lewis is definately on­ Mercedes sight, anything is possible for the right­ price in the driver market
