David Beckham has said that he will become the owner of a future 20th team in Major League Soccer - and is already looking at potential locations.
"We've got options, obviously," he said. "At this stage I am not going to say what they are but it will happen eventually."
MLS commissioner Don Garber confirmed that Beckham would have the ownership option, though he dismissed speculation that the England midfielder would be involved in a possible Montreal franchise.
"We didn't talk about this until recently but David has the option for our 20th team," Garber said.
"That option can't be exercised until after 2011 or after he stops playing so we have got some time to figure that out."
Montreal could become the 19th team in the league following the arrival of Philadelphia next year and Vancouver and Portland in 2011.
Beckham's current deal with the Galaxy runs out at the end of the 2011 season.

C'mon Becks You are my favourite !!! Your the best ever !!!
David Robert Joseph Beckham
I was NEVER a Manchester United fan, - my loyalties are to the REAL Manchester Club, (there's ONLY ONE of THEM), - but, - about THIS young fella, - I will say THIS! His soccer skills, have made him, an INSPIRATION, to a GENERATION - and, a "ROLE MODEL" for all!
So, - TO him, - I say THIS:-
Good luck, - and may God BLESS your quest for success, NOW, and ALWAYS!
wish all the best becks. you a miracle baby, good luck
Live the Dream! Good Luck to David.
tidy yourself up dave, you look like a right soap dodger..
Yeah, got for it!
i think that beckham will not listern/read these comments on these boards
personaly i would like him to do what he wants within reason and lets face it different peoples reasoning can be very different
but i do like that idea about opening a football club in a poor region of the world
He should be a proper role model now he has gained some peoples' respect and buy a football team in a 3rd world country,.. not keep all the MILLIONS/BILLIONS circulating in america. Its people like beckham who can make this difference and send a certain message through to us numb nuts!! He doesnt need anymore fame or money so why bother! take a step back mate and have a rethink! what do you think?? No stupid, daft ,hardcore football fan with no other interest in life, needs to give a pathetic response to this comment!! unless it proves its worth!
can someone let me know which faith he decided to baptize his children in. (chortle)
thanks for agreeing he is so thick.
to ken,
u don't have a right to said about our prophet that way. if u hate the guy nick Gay Muslim just call or talk to him only dont involve the comunity. maybe those who using nick Gay Muslim is one of yours n just making fun of others religions.
stupid nick/name Gay.
he can buy the best team ever yes west ham is for sale
Dont know why my comment was invalid made a good point and cant be bothered to type it out again.Good move....maybe not until the 3-4 year old kids who are now getting into it reach 20, will we see america embrase footy
focus is the strongest spirit to success. Becks ride on.
Good luck to Beckham, he'll end up making Ferguson look like the commom bullying boot thrower he is, using other folks money and bullying tactics to buy success.
They just have to be sensible in the USA and not think football is going to break into the big 4 sports over night. Why not have Becks own a team? He needs to tap into the youth that play the sport all over the country and get that talent through to the pitch. Low stakes. They need to have at least one team in each state, so to say they only have 18 teams at present show they have a long way to go.
good luck becks.ur courage.ability.determination worth to emulate. from mm
David Beckham , now in the twilight of his career has proved over the years his true professionalism. His contributions to the game unquestionable. A man of true integrity with the ability to forward plan in a manner that both will continue his involvement in the game, but also will be a stepping stone to helping to create a far bigger soccer league than the premiership, yes it will take time but I'm certain it will happen.I have visited America several times and have been amazed at the the growth in interest at school level which in time will spread to adult level. I was able to watch the game in Seattle. 46,000 fans was there. A good atmosphere and no apparent fan trouble. The States really is the next big soccer empire waiting to explode on to the international scene. and David Beckham is right to want to be part of it. Good Luck David.
And why not - there seems to be a lot of 'sour grapes' commenting on this proposed
buy by Beckham. At least it shows that his heart is in the right place - football and he wants to put something back into the game. Thank God for people like him -
Staffs
we know beckham is thick as mince, but even he wouldnt get involved with glasgow rangers, anyway, would you really want a guy with a cartoon voice dealing with the press and letting victowia design a nice new lemon and pink home strip, i might not be a rangers fan, but even i wouldnt wish that on them!!!!
I want david beckham to say at la Galaxy
