International Football - Goalkeeper booked for rescuing cat

Eurosport - Mon, 23 Nov 16:06:00 2009

A goalkeeper in a Croatian division one match was given a yellow card at the weekend for rescuing a pitch-invading cat.

Yellow card generic - 0

Feline loving Ivan Banovic of Medjimurje Cakovec noticed the cat entering the field of play near his goal in the 20th minute of a match against Sibenik.

Banovic picked up the cat and moved it to a safe area beside the scoreboard, only for the referee to book him for leaving the field without permission.

The fans were incensed with the referee's decision and proceeded to hurl abuse at him for the rest of the match, while every touch of Banovic's was cheered even though he was playing for the away team.

Despite the added support, Banovic's day went from bad to worse as his side were beaten 1-0.

  2. What an awesome player, that guy should get a reward. I am SO glad that there are those who truly care about our four-legged friends out there. I can't blame those who were there for shouting abuses and name-calling that ref. If anything, that ref should've been red-carded out the game, point blank, that guy sucks, he should never be allowed to ref another game again.
