Kolo Toure has sparked controversy by hinting William Gallas was responsible for forcing him out of Arsenal.

The Manchester City defender made the claim on Eurogoals One to One, broadcast on British Eurosport on Monday night.

Toure said he fell out with a team-mate, and the ill-feeling prompted his exit from the Emirates after the feud turned manager Arsene Wenger against him.

"I had problems with certain players at Arsenal, especially one, whose name I will not say because I don't want to feed the controversy.

"I didn't have much time on the pitch last year because I think there's a player who got the manager believing that he and I had no understanding on the field. That did surprise me hugely."

While Toure does not mention Gallas by name, it is known the pair did not see eye to eye.

And comments about a row over the captaincy and the lack of on-pitch understanding further suggest he is referring to his former central defensive partner Gallas, who was stripped of the captaincy last season after publicly criticising team-mates.

"I have never looked to put a spoke in anyone's wheel at all," says Toure.

"I have never wanted to be captain. My wish was to finish my career at Arsenal, but there are always banana skins."

Toure spent seven years at Arsenal before joining Manchester City for £16 million in July.
