Toyota 'have no plans' to quit F1

Toyota has countered speculation they may join their Japanese rival Honda in withdrawing from Formula One.

Just weeks after Honda announced they would no longer be able to compete, Toyota has admitted they are set to record its first operating loss since before World War II.

"We have absolutely no plans to withdraw from Formula One," a spokeswoman told the British newspaper The Guardian.

She intimated, however, that Toyota is set to implement its own measures to reduce its annual spend on the sport, over and above the regulated FIA cost-cutting.

"To keep it up at the current level is extremely difficult," Toyota Motor Corporation president Katsuaki Watanabe said in Japan.

The Cologne-based team's President, John Howett, backed fellow FOTA luminary Luca di Montezemolo in calling for a greater than 50 per cent share of the sport's commercial revenue for the teams.

"I believe in the Champions League it is upwards of 96-97 per cent of revenues that is redistributed depending on where you finish, whereas at the moment we receive 50 per cent.

"So given the current circumstances people would like to reopen that discussion," he said.

    Why did glok slow down so much­ in the last lap..
    glok was driving on the track in the­ last few remaining bends allowing hamilton to take the­ inside line to victory.
    HHHmmmmmm.....doesn't seem­ suspicious to me...Can anyone enlighten me as to why­ Glok was on track in last few bends, considering he had­ slicks on and all

  8. wonder if toyota will provide the new engine/gearbox­ assembly to the teams in 2010? must have a sweetener in­ the offering somewhere to keep them spending the sort­ of money they have been throwing around.
    but it is­ comforting to hear that when it all goes tits up at­ least toyota will still be on the grid and will win the­ drivers and constructors championships but there will­ be controvesy when they get a retrospective drive thru­ penalty at each race from the stewards for allowing­ ferrarrrrri to pull out of f1 first
