The Denver Nuggets will be without Carmelo Anthony until at least after Christmas following the death of the All-Star forward's sister, the NBA team said on Wednesday.
Anthony left the Nuggets in San Antonio shortly before they were beaten 109-103 by the Spurs on Wednesday night after he learned his sister Michelle had died of a pre-existing medical condition in Baltimore the previous day.
She is survived by four children.
"Our entire organization supports Carmelo during this difficult time for him and his family," Nuggets executive vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri said in a statement.
"It is heartbreaking news, particularly during the holiday season."
