Porter: Promotion still possible

Thu 24 Jan, 05:45 PM

Hartlepool striker Joel Porter insists a promotion push is not beyond the current crop at Victoria Park this season.Pools, without a game this weekend, currently languish in 14th place in League One, but, fresh from Tuesday's 4-3 win over Southend, Porter believes a top-six spot is still achievable.

"Although we are close to the bottom of the table, we are also close to the top six and if we start putting a run of wins together, we could be back up there and we are confident we can achieve that," said Porter.

Victory over the Shrimpers was the first since the 3-0 win over Crewe in mid-December and Porter was relieved to see the side get a welcome three-point haul under their belts.

"We conceded a few goals but we can work on that - there were more positives," the 29-year-old told the club's official website. "The main thing was the three points and getting back on track."
