Audebert Banned

Thu 24 Jan, 04:09 PM

Clermont Auvergne flanker Alexandre Audebert has received an eight-week ban after being found guilty of foul play during his team's Heineken Cup clash against Munster earlier this month.

Audebert, 30, was cited by Italian match commissioner Achille Reali for stamping on Munster fly-half Ronan O'Gara and punching O'Gara's team-mate Alan Quinlan.

Both citings were upheld, although no separate suspension was imposed for the punching incident because a three-man disciplinary panel sitting in Dublin today felt it did not warrant a red card.

Audebert, capped twice by France in 2000 and 2002, cannot play again until March 20. He has the right to appeal.
