The 17-year-old Birmingham native, a quarter-finalist at last year's US Open junior tournament, was in imposing form against the 15th seeded American firing three aces and closing out victory in one hour and ten minutes.

"It's an achievement but hopefully I'm not done yet," said the third seeded Evans.

"I have to focus on my next match. It has the number three next to my name so the aim was to be in the latter stages of the week and see what happens."

Evans, who is bidding to become the first British junior to reach the last four of a major since Andy Murray won the 2004 US Open title, says Melbourne's new Plexicushion surface is well suited for his game.

"It's slow but it's quick through the air so you have a lot of time to get your opponent off the court and then come forward," he said.

"It lets me play my game. It's good for players like me who changed it up a bit more than normal players so I'm getting a bit more reward than just hitting back and forth. It's looking good so far."

Next up for the world's ninth ranked junior is India's eighth seed Yuki Bhambri, who also won comfortably in straight sets to reach the last eight.

"I saw Bhambri play last week and there is nothing major to worry about," said Evans. "I will go out there confident of playing my game."
