Mixu pleased with 'great start'

Sun 24 Feb, 02:30 PM

Hibernian manager Mixu Paatelainen admitted his side can get better despite watching them overcome Inverness 2-0 at Easter Road. The hosts blew the Highland outfit away after five minutes with two quick goals.

Colin Nish set the Leith side on their way after three minutes before Steven Fletcher scored the final goal of the game just two minutes later.

However, after threatening to record a high score against their opponents, Hibs took their foot off the gas to give Craig Brewster's charges hope they could claw themselves back into the contest.

Paatelainen said: "We had a great start, we had clinical finishes and there were great runs and great passes.

"After that, all credit to Inverness in the second half, they pushed players forward.

"Our passing was not good and our decision making was not good and we lost our tactics again.

"I can understand the supporters' frustrations, they want your team to dominate and play fantastic football all the time but that does not always happen in football matches."

Paatelainen was particularly pleased with the performance of January recruit Nish who opened the scoring and was part of the move that led to Fletcher's strike.

He said: "He was better against Inverness.

"I understand he is trying to over-impress at times. We want him to play his normal game.

"He scored a goal, it was a good run and good finish.

"He was instrumental in the second goal, a good pass and good run from Boozy."

Meanwhile, Inverness manager Craig Brewster lamented his side's costly start to the game.

He said: "When you lose goals like that, you are always going to have a mountain to climb.

"We looked bright in the first couple of minutes and then we lost a goal after the first attack and a second goal after the second attack.

"I thought our shape in the first half was not right, we were either all defending or all attacking.

"It's difficult to put your finger on it but we looked up for it in the second half.

"In the second half we looked a good side again, I don't know how many chances we created.

"I thought we got credibility back with the second half performance but when you are two-nil down it's difficult."
