Italy's Davide Rebillin was fastest of a three-man break-away to win the Tour du Haut Var.

Gerolsteiner's Rebellin beat out compatriot Rinaldo Nocentini and Russian Alexandre Botcharov to win the 40th edition of the French one-day race, the first stage of the Coupe de France.

The 36-year-old Rebellin, who won the race nine years ago, took command of the race 15-kilometres from the finish on the Côte des Tuillières climb passing previous race leader Nicolas Vogondy after breaking away 500 metres from the summit.

Only Nocentini and Botcharov were able to stay with the former Giro D'Italia victor, who was much too strong for his fellow escapees in the final sprint easily claiming victory after 197-km of riding.

Last year's victor Filippo Pozzato did not race in Sunday's edition.
