Bundesliga - Bayern eye Neuer swoop
Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer said he wants to sign Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the summer.
Bayern’s options between the sticks are limited to veteran Hans-Joerg Butt - who will turn 37 at the end of the season and was originally signed as back-up - and youngster Thomas Kraft, who started the 1-0 Champions League win at Internazionale but is only 22.
With Neuer establishing himself as Germany’s number one, Beckenbauer expressed clear interest in swooping for the 24-year-old.
"For me Manuel Neuer is the best keeper in the world," he said.
"When we can have a top player we must do everything we can to recruit him."
Neuer’s current contract expires at the end of next season and, with Schalke struggling this campaign, he is unlikely to extend it, meaning the Gelsenkirchen club could cash in.
