Chopra keen to 'shut critics up'

Mon 24 Mar, 01:00 PM

Sunderland's super-sub Michael Chopra is hoping to silence his critics after scoring the Black Cats' crucial winner at Villa Park. The substitute clinched the club's first away victory of the season at the weekend when he latched on to Kieran Richardson's pass to score.

It was only Chopra's fourth goal for the club after his £5million move last summer from Cardiff City, who had asked to re-sign the striker on loan.

Chopra admits he can do little about his price tag and is determined to prove he can cut it at Premier League level.

"A lot of people will still be saying they paid £5million for me and I'm not worth it," said Chopra in Daily Star.

"All I have to do is keep scoring goals and shut these people up. Thankfully I've done that here and we got a massive three points.

"People talk about the price tag, but I'm not the one who sets that.

"You have to score goals and that's been disappointing at times, but hopefully this can lead to a few more.

"I've got to prove to people that I can score goals in the Premiership."
