Cumbrians too good for Cobblers

Mon 24 Mar, 06:45 PM

A second-half goal from Danny Livesey set Carlisle on their way to a 2-0 home win over Northampton - their 14th consecutive home victory. The Cumbrians sealed the points late on at Brunton Park on Monday with a second from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson to keep up the hunt for an automatic promotion place in League One.

Carlisle took the lead after 50 minutes with a textbook set-piece move from Simon Hackney's right-wing corner.

Peter Murphy flicked the ball across goal and skipper Livesey was on hand to slam it into the roof of the net from just a yard out at the far post.

A shocking error in the Cobblers' defence settled Carlisle's nerves as Mark Little was robbed by Danny Graham, who fed the ball inside to Bridge-Wilkinson and he kept his cool to slot the ball home from 10 yards.
