Les Bleus lose Henry and Vieira

Mon 24 Mar, 04:45 PM

Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira have both pulled out of the France squad ahead of the friendly against England in Paris on Wednesday night.Henry played the full 90 minutes of Barcelona's 4-1 defeat of Real Valladolid on Sunday but pulled out of the Les Bleus party for the match against Fabio Capello's men due to an unspecified injury.

His absence means David Trezeguet could get a rare start after being called up earlier on Monday as a replacement for the injured Karim Benzema.

The Juventus striker, whose last game for Les Bleus came in a defeat to Scotland in September, had all but given up playing for France again after he was left out of the 39-man squad to face Mali on Tuesday and England 24 hours later.

But Benzema withdrew after suffering a knee injury in Lyon's victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, opening the door for Trezeguet.

Trezeguet - who has 70 caps to his name - scored the goal which won Euro 2000 for France and was also part of the 1998 World Cup-winning squad.

The 30-year-old is Juve's top scorer in Serie A this season with 17 goals in 28 appearances - including the winner in Sunday's 2-1 victory at Inter Milan.

Lens striker Loic Remy was also added to the France squad for the first time on Monday.

The 21-year-old replaces Mathieu Valbuena who was forced to withdraw after suffering an adductor injury on Saturday.

Captain Vieira also withdrew later on Monday after failing to overcome a thigh strain.

The Inter midfielder hinted it was not a serious injury, however, and he expects to be back for the Nerazzurri's weekend clash with Lazio.

He said: "I hope to play on Saturday but there really is no point in taking risks.

"I am frustrated but I am staying with the squad. I really wanted to play."
