Macclesfield took a giant stride towards securing their Football League status after a convincing 3-0 home victory over Barnet on Monday. The opening goal came just after the half-hour mark when Neil Ashton delivered a pin-point cross to the far post for Danny Thomas to head home his fourth goal of the season from six yards.

Ashton produced another perfect delivery after 41 minutes which was missed by everyone and crept in at the far post to double Macclesfield's lead.

The game was sealed after 48 minutes when Francis Green waltzed in from the left flank before drilling a 20-yard shot into the top corner for his 11th goal of the season.

The home side had further chances with Gareth Evans seeing a 15-yard drive cleared off the line and 17-year-old Shaun Brisley curling a 20-yard drive inches wide.

The Bees created little all game, and two chances which fell to Adam Birchall were both easily saved by Jon Brain.
