Thorne strike sees off Spireites

Mon 24 Mar, 08:00 PM

A goal from leading scorer Peter Thorne earned Bradford a 1-0 home win over Chesterfield to put a dent in the Spireites' play-off aspirations.Thorne headed the winner after 16 minutes from right-back Ben Starosta's cross to separate the sides in Monday's League Two clash at Valley Parade.

Chesterfield, who were without injured leading scorer Jack Lester, offered little threat before half-time but stretched Bradford's defence to the limit in the last 20 minutes only to be denied by Scott Loach.

The Bradford goalkeeper did well to divert David Dowson's angled shot for a corner in the 78th minute before turning away a 25-yard shot from substitute Jamie Winter four minutes from the end to preserve the home side's lead.
