Patrick Vieira is the latest high-profile name to withdraw from the France side to face England in Paris on Wednesday.

The Internazionale midfielder blamed a lingering left leg injury for his decision to pull out.

"I am frustrated," he said.

"I hope to be able to play next weekend for Inter, as it (the injury) is getting much better, but not to be playing on Wednesday is extremely disappointing."

Vieira joins former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry on the sidelines, after the Barcelona striker picked up an injury in his side's 4-1 defeat of Valladolid in La Liga on Sunday.

With Karim Benzema and Louis Saha also missing, David Trezeguet has been drafted into Raymond Domenech's side.

The Juventus striker scored in his side's 2-1 defeat of Serie A leaders Internazionale on Sunday, taking his tally to 17 for the season, and looks set to earn his first cap since appearing in France's shock defeat at the hands of Scotland in September 2007.

Trezeguet has played 70 times for his country. The 30-year-old featured in the 1998 World Cup winning squad, and scored the golden goal which won Euro 2000.

With 23-year-old Mathieu Valbuena out injured, on-loan Lens striker Loic Remy has also been called into the France squad for the Stade de France friendly.

21-year-old Remy is on loan at the Stade Félix Bollaert from hometown club Lyon, for whom he made his debut in 2006 after progressing through the club's youth academy.

After making seven league appearances for the French champions this season, he joined Lens in January on a loan deal that could become permanent for a fee of around £6 million.

The rangy striker has scored three goals in his six appearances to date for Lens, and recently netted in the 3-3 draw at home to Marseille.

Remy has previously been capped by the France Under-21 side, but this is the first time he has been selected by national coach Domenech.
