Britain's sailors had mixed fortunes in the Laser Radial races on the first day of the 2008 Takapuna World Championships in New Zealand.

Chloe Martin was the best finisher in the youth women's section after two races in eight to 12 knots north-easterly winds.

Martin finished fourth with a score of 12 while Melissa Addy and Hannah Diamond finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Ben Paton finished a credible 18th in the senior men's class with a score of 35 while James Spencer finished ninth in the youth men's section with a score of 10.
