Celtic winger Aiden McGeady could be set for a big-money move to Bayern Munich.

Reports in Scotland claim that the inevitable move of the Irish flyer to one of Europe's top leagues will materialise in the summer.

The Scottish Daily Mail pointed to Bayern as his most likely destination, while The Scottish Sun reckons that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been eyeing him.

Both would make some sort of sense.

Bayern currently have Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger operating on the flanks but Ribery is a target for Barcelona and the rest, while ageing Brazilian lefty Ze Roberto is more comfortable in the middle of the park these days.

Spurs use playmaker Luka Modric on McGeady's preferred wing but he is also more centrally minded, while other wide midfielders Aaron Lennon and David Bentley have much more joy on the right.

Either way, Ireland coach Giovanni Trappatoni would rather he quit the SPL sooner rather than later. Monkey tennis, I tell you.

Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis could move to Everton or Bolton even if the South Coast club retain their place in the Premier League.

The former Fulham and Tottenham man's contract expires in the summer but, oddly, Pompey only offered him a new deal in March and the player is exercising his right to let it run down.

"Sean has been offered an improved three-year contract," executive chairman Peter Storrie said in the Daily Mirror. "But I think he wants to keep his options open until the end of the season."

One man who will not be going anywhere is Stiliyan Petrov, who is set to sign a three-year extension to an Aston Villa deal that expires in 2010.

With Robbie Fowler leading the way at North Queensland Fury, more English players could see out the twilight of their careers in Australia.

Wolves captain Jody Craddock is being targeted by Perth Glory as he ponders whether his 33-year-old legs would be able to handle the Premier League in the likely event of their promotion.

The same club are looking at Birmingham's Kevin Phillips, whose decision to leave West Brom on promotion looked more like an acceptance that he could no longer cut it in the top flight than the given reason of a longer contract.

Struggling Newcastle have taken MFK Kosice prospect Lubomir Korijkov on trial.

The 16-year-old Slovakia youth international will spend a week at St James' Park after impressing Dennis Wise and co.

  1. Actually the whole tone of this article is borderline offensive - 'Monkey tennis' - what's that about Yahoo?
I think the Premiership is boring but surely it is your job to be neutral - IE not saying the SPL in cr*p at every oppertunity?

  2. lol, i live in Perth, and support Perth Glory. i would love to see some players from England finish their careers in Western Australia. in all honesty, the A-League is probably on par with League 2 in England, so some English players for my local team would be great.

  3. Bayern will never sign Aiden McGeady. He's not good enough, simple as that. Granted, he looks good in Scotland, but this is the country that made John Hartson look like a world beater. I could see him going to Spurs or maybe someone like Everton, but no way Beyern Munich.

  4. OI! alagerdrinker.... you're an ignorant fool - the only reason Scottish 'Soccer' (like many of Europe's other leagues) is in the doledrums is because the obscene spending power of fairly average clubs in the English top-flight. This is killing football across the world at grass-roots level. If the English clubs bothered with players from their own country, they would notice this too. McGeady's not good enough for Bayern anyway - maybe some mid-table premiership club can blow £12million on him rather than blood one of their own youngsters?

  6. How can you say that Scottish soccer is in the doldrums? First of all, they don't play soccer there - its FITBA! Secondly, rangers and celtic are pure garbage this season, but are still slugging it out! The "wee" teams like hearts, hibs, aberdeen, and dundee utd are all giving the old firm a good run for their money. In short, it is no more in the doldrums than english fitba!
