Draw not on agenda for Hibs

Thu 24 Apr, 06:15 PM

Mixu Paatelainen insists he is not contemplating anything other than a win at Aberdeen in the SPL as Hibernian chase UEFA Cup qualification. The Easter Road outfit remain in fifth spot after being held to a 1-1 draw with fourth-placed Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday.

It was a result which appeared to strengthen Motherwell's chances of clinging on to the 'best of the rest' tag behind the Old Firm in first and second.

However, Paatelainen, on his return to one of his former clubs, is refusing to get too analytical as he tries to steer his team into European football over the course of the final four games of the season.

Instead, he is concentrating solely on trying to focus his players' minds on producing the victories they need to leapfrog Motherwell and United - who face each other at Fir Park - and into third.

He said: "I expect nothing else but pelters when I go up there. It will be the usual away game.

"Although I was there as a player and thoroughly enjoyed my time there and had success, now I go there to take three points and they will not like that.

"I've not really looked at what the minimum we need is from the game, I've only contemplated getting a victory from Pittodrie.

"As always, we want to approach this game in a very positive frame of mind and go there and attack and score goals and win.

"If we don't win but draw, I don't think we will be out of it in the race for third spot, depending on the result in the Motherwell and Dundee United game."

Hibs have, over the last few seasons, proved they are a force to be reckoned with at Easter Road but have, on occasion, looked a completely different side away from home.

They have won only four of 17 matches on the road this term but have lost just three on their own turf.

And, with three of their five post-split fixtures away from the capital, Paatelainen has sought to address their away form.

He added: "We've spoken about it in our meetings. At the end of the day, it is more or less the same size of pitch and everything is the same away from home, apart from the supporters.

"We haven't done well enough, but it's all mental and if we can correct that one, we would be stronger."
