Thu 24 Apr, 04:30 PM

Northampton Town have confirmed that the Cobblers' head of youth Geoff Harrop will be staying with the club next season.Harrop had announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season to take up a position elsewhere, but he has now completed a dramatic u-turn and will remain at Sixfields.

The Cobblers' youth system has brought through the likes of Luke Chambers, Mark Bunn and Alex Dyer in recent years and chairman David Cardoza was delighted with the news.

He said: "Geoff has done a very good job over the last couple of years and I am very pleased that he will remain with us to continue his good work.

"Over the last few years we have seen an ever increasing number of professional players emerging from our youth system, and Geoff has put together an excellent coaching team made up of a number of former professional footballers, raising standards in the coaching we offer our young players.

"The obvious progress we have made this season, both on and off the field, is down to a small but talented and committed staff at the club, and Geoff is an important part of that team. We are delighted he will continue to be a valued part of that group."
