Mitch Hanson's loan stay at Port Vale has been cut short after he picked up a knee injury playing for the Valiants' reserve team. The 19-year-old has returned to parent club Derby after injuring his knee in the midweek 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Boss Lee Sinnott had been expected to run the rule over the former England Under-18 international in one of the Valiants' two remaining League One matches to help him decide whether to sign the youngster on a permanent basis.
The setback caps a frustrating spell at Vale Park for Hanson, whose arrival on loan was also delayed by injury.
