Stimpson wants early advantage

Thu 24 Apr, 04:45 PM

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has urged his side to crank up the pressure on their relegation rivals this weekend. The Gills face Swindon in an early kick-off on Saturday well aware victory at Priestfield would leave the likes of Cheltenham, Millwall and Crewe nervously peering over their shoulders ahead of their respective games against Oldham, Carlisle and Bournemouth.

Failure to secure all three points could seal Gills' relegation from League One, but Stimson is confident his players can produce the goods when it matters most.

"It will be a massive advantage because the other teams will know our result before they go out on the pitch," said Stimson.

"If we get the three points then the teams above us may be under a little bit more pressure.

"I don't think I will need to do a team talk on Saturday because I think the players know what is required and then go out and play to the best of their ability."
