Matthew Hoggard staked his claim for an England recall with a superb display for Yorkshire in the LV County Championship.
The seamer, dropped during the recent Test series in New Zealand, took all the Hampshire wickets as the visitors slipped to 115 for five in reply to Yorkshire's 398 at Headingley.
Hoggard's five for 51, watched by national selector Geoff Miller, came after Andrew Dale - 99 not out overnight - had pushed on to 138 in Yorkshire's first innings.
Elsewhere, England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff fell for a golden duck as Lancashire toiled on the second day against Somerset.
Flintoff, also eyeing a place in the side for the first Test against New Zealand next month, edged Peter Trego behind first ball as Somerset hit back at Old Trafford.
The hosts had resumed on 60 without loss in their reply to 238 but Mark Turner, with three for 53, led the revival as Lancashire struggled to 221 for nine on a rain-affected second day.
Paul Horton hit 65 at the top of the order but Lancashire had been in difficulty on 142 for six until a solid 40 from Luke Sutton.
Surrey ended the day at the Riverside on 123 for four after bowling Durham out for 224.
Captain Mark Butcher hit 11 fours in his 65 but both he and Mark Ramprakash (31) fell just before the close to give Durham heart.
Pedro Collins and Chris Jordan earlier finished with three wickets for Surrey while Durham skipper Dale Benkenstein topped his side's scoring with 67.
England discard Matt Prior hit 105 as champions Sussex looked set to claim a first-innings lead against Kent at Hove.
Prior, 57 overnight, faced 176 balls and hit 11 fours to help his side post 303.
The visitors, thrashed by Nottinghamshire last week, then struggled to 65 for six in response with only opener James Tredwell (25 not out) resisting.
Derbyshire were 64 for one after bowling out Essex for 270 on a much-shortened day at Derby.
England's Ravi Bopara (137), who hit more than half his side's runs, added just one to his overnight score before being the last Essex batsman to fall.
Steve Stubbings (23no) and John Sadler (12no) were the men at the crease for Derbyshire.
Tim Murtagh took three wickets to reduce Glamorgan to 85 for three against Middlesex at Lord's.
David Nash earlier fell four short of a century in Middlesex's 308.
Captain Nicky Boje starred with bat and ball as Northamptonshire took a firm grip of their clash with Warwickshire at Wantage Road.
Boje finished with 105 as his side posted 385 and then took three for 15 as the visitors slipped to 129 for seven.
Rain meant only 8.1 overs were bowled at New Road, where Worcestershire moved on to 275 for seven against Leicestershire. Steven Davies was unbeaten on 59.
