Derby have allowed assistant manager Stan Ternent to leave the club and take over the vacant Huddersfield manager's job.

Former Burnley boss Ternent, 61, has only been at Pride Park for five months, helping Paul Jewell coach the Premier League's bottom club.

But following the departure of Andy Ritchie, Ternent will take over at the Galpharm Stadium.

"We have given [Ternent] permission to join Huddersfield as their manager," Derby chairman Adam Pearson told the club website. "We have not sought any compensation from Huddersfield.

"I would like to thank Stan Ternent for the hard work he has put in for Derby and the support he has given Paul Jewell.

"We already have a new assistant lined up and ready to start work tomorrow. I am very excited about the future of the coaching staff moving forward, as is Paul Jewell.

"The new assistant has a proven pedigree and a top-class record and is someone well known to Paul."

Ritchie left Huddersfield after failing to secure a play-off spot for the League One side.
