Premier League - Spurs open to Beckham deal

Eurosport - Fri, 24 Apr 19:38:00 2009

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he could be interested in bringing local boy David Beckham back home in the run-up to next year's World Cup in South Africa.

The 33-year-old is on track to make Fabio Capello's squad for the finals and will need somewhere to remain match sharp during Major League Soccer's off season between December and March.

Beckham is spending the second half of this season at Milan, who are believed to be keen to repeat the loan deal for part of the 2009-10 season, but Redknapp has indicated that Tottenham could also be an option.

"I have not thought about David Beckham, but it would be disrespectful of me to say I would not be interested in him, were he to become available," Redknapp said.

"David Beckham is a fantastic player, but he is also a terrific role model and a terrific professional. If the opportunity was there to sign him, any club would have to think about it. He would still be a terrific player."

Tottenham may be an attractive option for Beckham as the club is based close to his English home north of London, as well as being the closest Premier League club to where he grew up.

Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson has suffered a partially torn ankle ligament and is expected to be out for up to three weeks.

The 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher against Newcastle after falling awkwardly on his left foot and is now facing a race to be fit for Spurs' final two matches of the Premier League season.

  1. Beckham won't play for Tottersringnigman Hottinghamspurs because he likes to play in a side that has a chance to win. Why do you think he left them in first place?

  2. bigrichied69 - Joe Cole isn't world class, he's inconsistent and just about manages to get into the
Chelski squad. Jermain Defoe, world class? Are you day-dreaming? - Don't even get me started on that one. Peter Crouch, lankiest git on the planet - all gob-ble-de-@#$% and no technique. Lamps, brilliant for chelski, but on the national team, he flops - every time. Hardly world-class players?

i totally support the 6+5. It is a necessity. I am tired of buying tickets to watch foreign players win in our league, and that curse the national team for being a 3rd tear team, not worth even being in world cups and european championships because our players are kept as boot cleaners in their clubs. 6+5 all the way. I don't care if manu, arsenal, liverpool, chelsea, mancity, lose their foreign viewers who all they do is watch them for free on the internet and buy cheap shirts made in china. Bring english football back to the england. Pro 6+5.

  6. unfortunately 6+5 if implemented will ruin the game football will loose the international viewership that makes tV rights very high. Arsenal strategy of developing youth started when we decided to build the emirates and its not a short term strategy u must balance the business end unlike others who have had money thrown at them from other sources, what happens when the sources dry up like they are now.Shaun wright shld have come to arsenal but he went for the money to the bridge now hes bk at city, english players are over priced, The FA are responsible not Wenger for balancing building the best league with having a strong national team as the foreigners are why the league is the best. its all about TV rights if people dont watch form all over the world the tv money will go

  9. tippersbob.......You got three britts in the first team, 2 are English, 1 a taff.

Where you get 5-6 players from, and can you name them.

The biggest contingency of English players Arsenal have are in the ladies team, unless your counting them of course then i appologize

  11. tippersbob - Maybe Arsenal could field a 6 + 5 team, but they would be 5hit and probably get beat, thats why Arsene never fields them you dipstick.
Think before making a comment against somebody with a higher brain capacity than you, which is probably as big as a nats nacker.

  13. Theo Walcott did'nt come through the youth scheme at Arsenal.

You got him from Southampton if my memory serves me right.

Before that he was at Swindon Town as a boy.

  14. I don't think that Beckham can cope with the space of today's Premiership teams. He can joke around USA, and play the loosy Italians, but when it gets to real performance, he is too old and slow...

From Tamas, on Fri 24 Apr 2:34PM
  15. Gary you are obviously illiterate or blind because Arsenal could quite easially field a team of 6+5 any way why should a manager be frced to buy over rated English players because if they were any good they would already be playing for premiership teams! (make sure brain is engaged before putting thoutghts down on a blog)

How can you sit where you are on your dole money PC typing that you think that Henry, Viera, Anelka, Walcott and Ramsay have come through the Arsenal Ranks you complete numpty.
Im pretty sure that Arsenal bought them all from other clubs, in fact i cant remember the last one that came through your youth system to shine and be a superstar !!!
Unlike Super Sol Campbel, who you tried to bought as your defence was 5hite at the time.
Get your facts right son shine or start reading some HISTORY about the club before commenting.
