Premier League - Spurs open to Beckham deal

Eurosport - Fri, 24 Apr 19:38:00 2009

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he could be interested in bringing local boy David Beckham back home in the run-up to next year's World Cup in South Africa.

FOOTBALL 2009 England Slovakia David Beckham - 0

The 33-year-old is on track to make Fabio Capello's squad for the finals and will need somewhere to remain match sharp during Major League Soccer's off season between December and March.

Beckham is spending the second half of this season at Milan, who are believed to be keen to repeat the loan deal for part of the 2009-10 season, but Redknapp has indicated that Tottenham could also be an option.

"I have not thought about David Beckham, but it would be disrespectful of me to say I would not be interested in him, were he to become available," Redknapp said.

"David Beckham is a fantastic player, but he is also a terrific role model and a terrific professional. If the opportunity was there to sign him, any club would have to think about it. He would still be a terrific player."

Tottenham may be an attractive option for Beckham as the club is based close to his English home north of London, as well as being the closest Premier League club to where he grew up.

Tottenham centre-back Michael Dawson has suffered a partially torn ankle ligament and is expected to be out for up to three weeks.

The 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher against Newcastle after falling awkwardly on his left foot and is now facing a race to be fit for Spurs' final two matches of the Premier League season.

  1. come on aston villa get beckham if you get a chance, instead buying has been players like heskey, o'niell and learner you ve done a great job, but in this game you get nothing for coming second (well nearly nothing compared to the winner)

  2. "Teams like Arsenal are destroying Englands National Team"

Gary, gary, gary - you really are a wally. How can you justify such a single-minded comment? Arsenal have one of the best youth systems around, and under Wenger's guidance have developed/produced some of the most outstanding talent, and will continue to do so - any team (including spurs) would be more than happy to have the likes of Henry, Viera, Anelka, Walcott, Ramsay, Wiltshere among others?

What players has good old 'arry helped develop and turn into superstars? Darren Bent? (cough, cough).

Get your facts straight, and stop preaching hate.

  3. hey # 16 Chelsea don't have 6 + 5, all they have in terry and lampard,
liverpool carrager, and gerrard (but carrager is retired, so only gerragd)
man u have porbably the most engligh players (from the BIG 40
    arsenal have theo walcott
Aston villa are close to fielding an all english side which is good or them nut who cares

  5. Its all about depth in your squad, and Beckham will add depth and not to mentin the influence off the filed! People keep mentioning Lennon's poor final ball, well who better to teach him than sir Becks?!?!

  6. Mr Okay O
The reason Spurs has spent that much money is because they have had to buy more players to fill the spaces from the ones that left or more accurately poached.
As for Arsenal - they are a team full of Foreign players, so how they can be called and English Premier League team is beyond me - they have no youth system apart from buying cheap aborad.
Teams like Arsenal are destroying Englands National Team.
Here here for the 6 + 5 rule.
Lets see Arsenal slump from top 4 to bottom 4.

  7. 33 too old..lmaoooo, some ppl are hypocrites, if he plays for club he`s too old not as he was , yet if he plays for england and when he do`s he lifts the team, gives them options and more chance hes fine ya all cheer him,
some ppl have short memorys, tottenham may have a full squad, but has any one of them got the passion to play like becham!! i think not

  8. I think this really is a good option for both player and spurs.
His @#$% wife loves london. He is from there and played there as a kid.
Extra pace will improve fitness over italian league.
I think this may all hinge on ancelotti going to chelsea or not. If does he wont want becks there or milan.
Spurs would make a killing from the shirts, and a little im injured when we play united clause would be drawn up.
    great idea for all

  9. To bring Beckham to Spurs is not taking the club forward, we need younger talent and anyway we have Aron !!

  10. Makes fantastic commercial sense! Would lift the image of the club, make loads of money from shirt sales, would entice other big names to join, and don't forget we have naming rights up for the stadium so all the above MUST help!

I agree that he's too slow for 90 mins, and gets caught out of position all the time. Not such an issue in Italy where the pace is a lot slower, but the prem I think he'll be caught out. However, as a dead ball specialist there is still no one better and would be an ideal super sub for the last 15 minutes of a game.

  11. If for twenty minutes he can win a match for any team, i think is better than having somebody useless for ninety minutes. DAVIC, you a great footballer.

Harry forgot to mention the most important attraction, the fact that he can sell some of those spurs shirts in inventory. Harry your team is full of players, spurs have spent over £300mil between you Martin Jol and Juande Ramos, concentrate on what you have apart from entertainment football is also a business you must be able to make some return on peoples investment u just cant open a wish list and expect the fund providers to break the bank. Thats why i love Arsene he was made for Arsenal. Arsenal team is assembled with less the 50mil GBP spurs probably 200mil GBP look at the two clubs where they stand

  13. ARE YOU MAD HARRY, BECKHAM IS NOT THE PLAYER HE WAS, HE HAS YET TO COMPLETE A FULL 90 MINS FOR MILAN, LEAVE HIM WHERE HE IS, AARON LENNON WILL ALWAYS STAY AHEAD OF HIM IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD FOLLOWED BY ASHLEY YOUNG AND STEWART DOWNING WHO CAN SWITCH WINGS, AS FOR THE FREE KICKS, THERE IS ROONEY GERRARD AND LAMPARD AS WELL AS GARETH BARRY TO TAKE THEM

    From liamk00, on Fri 24 Apr 1:36PM
  14. Whats the crack with everyone saying he can only play twenty minutes?! What you basing that on.. England performances? For a club team he can play much more, what's to say he can't do what Giggs and Scholes do on a regular basis and play 60 or 70 minutes?!!

From Andrew, on Fri 24 Apr 1:30PM
  15. to jmp17 thats what i said the other day in a blog and every1 tore me apart, for the last 20 minutes he'd still be a huge asset to any team.
