Internazionale have cancelled the contract of striker Adriano after the Brazilian said recently he was taking a break from the game.
"Inter announce that the contract with Adriano has been terminated by mutual consent, with effect from April 1, 2009," a club statement said.
The future of the striker had been put into serious doubt last week when his agent Gilmar Rinaldi told the club about his client's intentions to stay in his native Brazil for a break.
The 27-year-old has scored 74 goals in 171 Serie A appearances for Inter but has struggled in recent seasons due to alcohol and personal problems.
Earlier this month, Inter club president Massimo Moratti admitted the club were thinking of shredding up Adriano's contract.
"We've done everything necessary but now the player is not guaranteeing what he is paid to do," he said.
City rivals AC Milan had been linked in the Italian media with a move for the player but the club quickly played down the reports.

Besides, Who Would Wanna Play For Th Scu!mmers Over Inter?
If He Wants A Break, Give Him One.
But No A Class Striker Is Gona Go From Inter To Arsenal.
Comment 10, do you follow football. Gallas never complain of lose of interest in football when he was a chelsea player, get it right.Wait till when Gallas leave arsenal before he will tell you he never enjoy better than when he was at chelsea. He cannot win anything with arsenal.FACT
And to think Scolari wanted to trade Drogba for him. Thank goodness it didnt happen and thank goodness Scolari is out of Chelsea. Adriano is a waste of space and should stay in Brazil along with his mate Scolari. Neither of them are wanted here.
he should go where he can be comfortable, but if he has a problem with alcohol then maybe its time to sort his self out. muppet. everything most people can only dream of, and all he can do is drink and not be bother to do what he's paid a silly amount of money to do. good ridence , was never that good anyway
What a waste of space. the latest in the long line of Brazilians who waste away their careers. Robinho your next!
whhat a waste of talent. He was explosive when he was loaned to Fiorentina
He should be like Ronaldo and play in Brazil but stay there. he's @#$%!
should be like Ronaldo and play in Brazil, at least until, and if he feels confident enough to go back to Europe.
shame, can be a great player on his day. now Man City will probably offer him an outrageous amount of money a week to join their ever growing list of strikers.
adriano should go to arsenal. there, he will find the beauty of football. Gallas as an example. lost the enjoy at chelsea, find it back at arsenal.
are you ogcommander or kardinal official?? not meant as an insult? pray tell me how else to interpret 'are you daft'? leave the skunk alone bro!

Don't go to EPL or La Liga, look what happened with Mutu, Bosnich, etc....stay in Brazil but if you want to go, Portugal, Japan, or Türkey is your next destination, because you will lesson to be more low profile with many brazillians there.
Scott S, are you daft? (Not meant as an insult)
Say he does come to Chelsea, at the age of 27, give him 2 years to proove himself, and say he doesn't turn out to be any good, who would then want to buy him for more than Chelsea paid? No one me thinks.
He has been treated the way he would in the real world. He's out of a job.
He was a good player...:(
come to chelsea. if dont work out then we can sell him and make a few mil. he'll be great if he can sort himself out
this guy does not deserve a contract anywhere.in the real world he'd find it hard to get another job. the sooner these players are treated that way they'd soon buck their ideas up. let him stay in brazil,he has enough money now anyway. all clubs should blacklist players like him. what a hard life he has ,compared to others. it must be hard being paid thousands for hard graft in football.
Doubt it!
