Argentina boss Alfio Basile has revealed he will include Juan Sebastian Veron in his squad for the upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers. The 33-year-old midfielder has not played for the Albiceleste since the Copa America in 2007, after which he questioned his desire to continue on the international scene, saying he was "not focused enough".
However, the former Internazionale, Manchester United and Chelsea playmaker has been given a reprieve, and Basile believes he can be instrumental in the qualifiers against Ecuador on June 14 and Brazil four days later.
"Veron is a very important player but he missed the last matches through injury," Basile told Nacional radio station.
"Now he is fine and we will definitely call on him again."
Basile also revealed Boca's Juan Roma Riquelme will be included, even though the playmaker is still suffering with an ankle injury, while his in-form team-mate, striker Martin Palermo, will miss out.
"There is no player like Riquelme, he is fantastic," said Basile. "Playing at 50% of his capabilities he can still create seven scoring chances per game.
"He is the leader of the national squad and a very important member in the system.
"Palermo is an outstanding striker but in that position I have other players such as (Sergio) Aguero, and (Carlos) Tevez. To field Palermo I would have to leave one of them out.
"In addition, (Julio) Cruz and (Fernando) Cavenaghi are young, very interesting forwards. I can't field 60 players."
