Andy Keogh's first Republic of Ireland goal ensured Giovanni Trapattoni's first game did not end in defeat following a 1-1 draw against Serbia at Croke Park.
The 22-year-old Wolves striker came off the bench to level in injury time as Ireland fought back to deny the visitors victory.
Trapattoni's side looked to be heading for defeat when substitute Marko Pantelic, who had only been on the pitch for five minutes, made the most of Paul McShane's error to fire past Dean Kiely 15 minutes from time.
But Keogh volleyed home from close range in injury time to send the home crowd into raptures on a big night for their Iralian manager.
