Derby County have confirmed talks are being held in a bid to sign striker Nathan Ellington from Watford.

Following the Rams' relegation from the Premier League, manager Paul Jewell is looking to overhaul his squad ahead of a promotion tilt next season.

He has lined up a reunion with Ellington, 26, who has struggled to make an impact since his club record move to Watford from West Bromwich Albion last summer.

Ellington scored four goals in 34 Championship appearances and was unable to command a regular starting place in Aidy Boothroyd's side.

However, he is now due to discuss a switch to Pride Park, where he would link up with Jewell again after the pair worked together at Wigan Athletic.

Rams chairman of football Adam Pearson confirmed the club are trying to finalise a deal, rumoured to be in the region of £2million, for Ellington.

"Discussions are underway to bring Nathan Ellington to Derby County and hopefully we can bring them to a conclusion," said Pearson in the Evening Telegraph.

Ellington's move to Pride Park would boost an attack which is likely to be depleted by Robert Earnshaw's proposed move to local rivals Nottingham Forest.

Derby are also understood to be keen to sign Ellington's Watford team-mate Jordan Stewart on a free transfer.
