Transfers - Gossip Shop: Beckham to Chelsea

Eurosport - Sun, 24 May 13:14:00 2009

If Carlo Ancelotti takes the Chelsea job as expected, he could be bringing David Beckham with him.

FOOTBALL Serie A 2008-09 Milan David Beckham - 0

That's the news according to the Sunday Mirror anyway, who reckon that Becks will be rocking up at Stamford Bridge if the Italian boss has his way.

Ancelotti is widely expected to announce his Milan departure tomorrow.

The former England captain may be 34, but his age shouldn't be an issue considering the number of over-30s already at the Bridge.

A senior Milan source said: "The first thing Carlo will do is try to negotiate a deal to take Beckham with him. There has been a lot of talk about various players, including Kaka, following him to Chelsea, but he is confident he can sort out a deal to take Beckham on loan from LA Galaxy."

Meanwhile, the News of the World reckon that Chelsea will shell out a monster £50 million for Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero who, despite the general consensus that his third season in La Liga has been a bit disappointing, has still scored 15 league goals.

Another man on the Blues' radar is Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko , whose impressive 25-goal haul helped the Wolves to the Bundesliga title.

A 'well-placed source' at Manchester City has told The Observer that the game's megastars are unwilling to come to Eastlands because of Mark Hughes.

The source said: "The main thing is that big players want to go to play with a proven coach. The owners want Mark Hughes to stay... but it's not the same with players - you have to convince them. It's difficult."

Whether or not that deters Emmanuel Adebayor from moving up north - the Citizens are believed to be the only side willing to match Arsenal's £21m valuation for the Togolese striker - remains to be seen.

City are also said to be mulling over signing Lyon captain Juninho . The Brazilian dubbed 'Monsieur 50/50' for his phenomenal free-kick strike rate has admitted that he may leave the French giants in the summer, with Real Madrid and Juventus also interested in the 35-year-old.

Another midfielder who could be headed to Eastlands is Gareth Barry. The People reckon the oil-rich club will try and outbid Liverpool and Milan for the Villa and England man.

So City may well have make do with just buying Portsmouth right-back Glen Johnson, if they can present themselves as a more attractive destination than Liverpool or Tottenham .

Arsene Wenger has hinted Thierry Henry could return to Arsenal - as a coach. "Is there ever a chance Thierry will come back? Of course. This club always wants players of his quality to come back. It will be difficult for him to come back as a player because in 2010 he will be 33."

Meanwhile, Juventus want Wenger to replace Claudio Ranieri as their manager, but the Gunners boss isn't interested.

Elsewhere, Fulham have turned down the option to sign Giles Barnes permanently after the midfielder's injury-plagued loan spell, Everton have given up on signing Michael Owen and Luis Figo could go to China if offers from America, Japan or Middle East fail to materialise.
