Accies achievements do not surprise Reid

Sun 24 May, 01:11 PM

Hamilton manager Billy Reid was "not surprised" at making history for the Lanarkshire club having secured their Clydesdale Bank Premier League status for the second season in a row for the first time.

Accies were safe going into Saturday's clash against St Mirren, a game which they duly won courtesy of Simon Mensing's 28th-minute header.

Reid said: "Without being blase, I'm not surprised.

"I have a good group of players here. Hopefully we hang on to the majority of the squad. I have targeted a few players who I think can make a difference for next season. As a club we want to progress, I have fantastic backing from everyone at the club and that's the aim for next season.

"It was important to win. We wanted to finish as high up the league as we could and we have finished ninth in our debut season, which is respectable."

Accies' highly-rated midfielder James McCarthy will discuss his future with the Hamilton management on Monday, he said: "I am happy at this club but we will sit down and talk. I am not sure what will happen."
