Caicedo strikes to sink Trotters

Felipe Caicedo's eighth-minute effort was enough to let Manchester City end the season on a winning note with a 1-0 win against Bolton.

The Ecuador striker was presented with the easiest of tap-ins after Micah Richards had turned an improvised pass from Stephen Ireland into his path.

Surprisingly chosen after being ruled out by Mark Hughes on Friday, Shaun Wright-Phillips almost bowed out with a goal but despite going close on four occasions, could not find a way past Jussi Jaaskelainen.

On his return to top flight action after an eight-month suspension for off-field issues, referee Mark Clattenburg awarded a free-kick for a Danny Shittu foul on Robinho, which ultimately provided City with the opener.

A training ground move seemed to have gone wrong when Robinho played a short pass to Stephen Ireland, only for Shittu to appear right in front of him.

But the Blues player of the year improvised astutely, flicking a pass over the Bolton defence which Micah Richards acrobatically turned into Caicedo's path, providing the Ecuador star with a tap-in.
