Southend have completed the signing of veteran striker Paul Furlong on a free transfer from Luton as they continue building for next season.The 39-year-old has penned a one-year deal and follows fellow new-boys Osei Sankofa and Steve Mildenhall to Roots Hall.

Furlong scored 12 goals last season but was unable to prevent the Hatters slipping to relegation from League One.

The former Birmingham, Watford, Chelsea and QPR forward started out as a trainee at Enfield and has made over 500 career appearances.
