Queiroz Urges Ronaldo To Stay

Tue 24 Jun, 12:09 PM

Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Old Trafford because of the "affection" the club has for the talented winger.

Ronaldo's future at United remains up in the air with speculation still rife over a possible move to Real Madrid, although the Spanish club's president Ramon Calderon claimed on Monday he would not break the bank to sign the player.

Calderon also admitted there was little his club could do if United did not want to sell the 23-year-old, and Queiroz believes the best place for Ronaldo to ply his trade in the future remains Manchester.

"Manchester United is very special," Queiroz told Portuguese radio station Renascenca. "Because of that we know how to surround Cristiano completely with all the affection and all the attention he deserves.

"However, not speaking is the most sensible course of action at this moment, so that we don't contribute to a less than positive spectacle and so we don't aid those whose interests are difficult to identify."

Queiroz is something of a father figure to Ronaldo at United and was instrumental in keeping the player at Old Trafford in 2006 following his role in Wayne Rooney's dismissal in that year's World Cup quarter-final between Portugal and England.

Calderon had earlier told Marca: "There is no 'Cristiano Ronaldo case' because Manchester (United) do not want to sell.

"In any case, Real Madrid will never pay 100million euros for anybody."

  1. How much money can you want? He must be on at least £90,000 a week at Man Utd + sponsors + appearance and goal fees etc, etc. What do these players do with the money?

  2. Let him go, cause he might not be useful as the last season cause his mind is off, he will ot be useful for manchester and useless for real, so let him go. football is a game of soldier go soldier comes

  4. Thanks to Fergy for teaching players from nothing and make them famous with the support of the club and the loyal fans behind each player, for Ronaldo its all about money not about playing loyal to the club, the news of sell out does not suprise any one man-utd will allways be the best club and more greater players coming in the club. If Ronaldo wishes that let him go, he will never be famous in R.Madrid or spain like in the UK the tie is broken no more trust.
    Estalavista Ronaldo.

  5. Really simple Carlos used to be at Madrid then went to Man U, hes saying to Ronaldo to stay at Man U cause he knows Madrid wont make him a Legend just stupidly overpayed, when hes 60 people wont remember him if he moves to Madrid, IN england he will be remembered even if he died at 80, if he finished his career with Rooney and Tevez at Manu and they won everything there would be Statues of them. Just how we remember George Best even after his death even after he stopped playing football for so long everyone still remembers/talks about him.

  6. Quieroz let the boy go we dont need him any longer. We know he is your relation but even you about to betray us by getting a portugues coach job. You are both sellouts. Just go you gold diggers and leave man u alone. MAN U FAN 4 LIFE

  7. Man u's hands are probably tied a bit more than some might think. Fifa have said thet if a player plays less than 10% of fixtures they can walk away from the club.If Ronaldo wants to go, which he obviously does there is no point trying to keep him,
Real Madrid are now trying to be hard nosed businees men after unsettling Ronaldo getting him to state his intentions and then renegging on the price they were proposing.
I would think long and hard about going to a club that is prepared to play games like this with your livelihood, Ronaldo will not get the same support as he has at united
and could well be the lesser player for it, but it is his decision and Ican only see things becoming even uglier.
Real will probebly now say that it is Ronaldo that WANTS the move and try to kock the price down.
I can only say to Ronaldo bewre unscrupulous clubs who see you as away of earning money.

  10. What a surprise! Now Madrid have got Ronaldo to speak out they suddenly renege on their talk of 'spending whatever it takes' to get Ronaldo. Now United won't sell and everyone looks stupid.

  11. If he doesn't want to play for Manchester United, then let him go at a very good price. Use that money for players who want to play for a team with a great heritage. No one person is greater than the team. Ronaldo could not function without his other team members - it is a team effort! I'll certainly be sad to see him go.

And should Ronaldo refuse to play his best for United, then let him rot on in the reserve team, until his contract expires.
