Premier League - Arsenal Nasri deal not complete

Eurosport - Tue, 24 Jun 15:10:00 2008

Samir Nasri's agent has denied his own client's claim that he had completed a move from Marseille to Arsenal.

2007-2008 Marseille Samir Nasri - 0

The France international reported on his personal website that he had signed a four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium, but his representative Jean-Paul Bernes described the claim as 'premature'.

"Discussions are continuing between the two clubs and the player," said Bernes. "Nothing has been finalised, no element of the transfer has been finalised and everybody is still talking. It is premature to announce anything at all."

The statement was subsequently removed from Nasri's website.

Nevertheless, Arsenal are expected to tie up the loose ends of a deal worth around £16 million, securing Arsene Wenger's top summer target.

Marseille spokeswoman Nathalie Paoli also said the deal "still has to be finalised between Arsenal and Olympique Marseille".

Arsenal have made no statement on the player who would be their second close-season signing, following the capture of teenager Arron Ramsey from Cardiff City for £5 million.

The deal has been delayed while Nasri was at Euro 2008 with the France squad. The versatile winger, who can play on both flanks, made two appearances, both as a substitute.

Nasri holds the dubious distinction of being taken off in the same match as being brought on at the tournament, during the crunch Group C match against Italy.

He replaced the injured Franck Ribery after just 10 minutes of that 2-0 defeat, only to be substituted himself 15 minutes later when manager Raymond Domenech brought on defender Jean-Alain Boumsong after Eric Abidal was sent off.

Nasri was voted Marseille's player of the year by the club's fans at the end of the 2006/2007 season, and scored six goals in 30 appearances last term.

  1. i do think mr wenger is a transfer guru but then we should look at the defence gallas is aging fast and loosing his form. so one or two rock solid defenders and a very sharp attacker to compliment what is on ground should be okay. arsene pls dont buy except it is really okay. keep your good job on. what is it about you going to coach france?

  5. Here's what it says on Samir's website:

Samir à Londres dans les heures à venir ?

Selon le quotidien La Provence Samir va se rendre à Londres dans les heures qui viennent pour passer la visite médicale et parapher ensuite un contrat de 4 ou 5 ans.
Une bonne chose pour lui vu le nombre de personne qui pourrissent ça réputation depuis l'annonce de son envol. Il n'aura du coup aucun regret a partir et j'éspère que ces gens la se mordrons les doigts d'avoir baver sur lui...

    Bonne chance Samir !

And my French not being great, this is what Babelfish made of it:

Samir in London in the hours to come?

According to the daily newspaper Provence Samir will go to London in the hours which come to pass the medical visit and to then initial a contract of 4 or 5 years. A good thing for him considering the number of anybody which rotted that reputation since l' announces of its take-off. It n' blow no regret will have to leave and j' hope that these people will bite ourselves the fingers d' to have to dribble on him…

    Samir good luck!

Hopefully no-one will be biting thier fingers or dribbling on him! :) :) :)

  12. Nasri is a great player and has been regarded the new zidane he would be great for arsenal however i think arsenal need to buy some new players at the back and up front like david silva, david villa and micah richards. Arsene Wenger has got a lot of money he needs to spends some on good players. I think Mountiniho would be a great replacement for flamini he's had a great time at the euros. go arsenal

  14. Nasiri no doubt is good purchase considering is performance last season at marseille however having good defenders shld. be wenger's priority to replace gallas and stdby replacement in case of any injury on star defender. Experience and mature defender i will advice wenger to go for-go for Ashavin or denis kolodin. Obafemi Martin as rumours shld not be on wenger list. Adebayo. walcot, is good to be retained

  17. I think the attacking part is FINE right now ... in midfield we got all creative player ... that EXCELLENT .... I just doubt about DEFENCE department .... we should won the title or CHAMP league if our defence can be consintence on the second half of the season .... what i can see in the 1st period before crismast ... the defend are good but after that ... the defence become sloppy

  19. Bring on more young talented stars monsiuer Wenger. Once they've become stars, sell them and Arsenal will be the star producer not a winner. I wonder whether Arsene Wenger gets some compensation when he sell his star player to other club. Bon voyage!

  20. Etoo is not the player he was a few seasons ago unfortunately....Barca would not be so willing to offload him if he was...Last two seasons he has not been good at all, maybe because of injuries he suffered, but nowhere near his best.
