Italian Ricardo Ricco will take part in the Tour de France as a replacement for the ill Jose Angel Gomez Marchante.
The 24-year-old Ricco, who rides for Saunier-Duval, finished second in the Giro d'Italia last month and will be one of the favourites for the polka dot jersey awarded to the best climber of the world's greatest stage race.
"Ricco, whose calendar did not include the French grand tour, is joining the team because Marchante won't be able to participate. He's been suffering from ulcerative colitis," Saunier-Duval said in a statement.
It will be Ricco's second appearance on the Tour, two years after he finished 98th overall on his debut.
The Tour de France starts in Brest on July 5 and ends in Paris on July 27.

He's got a stunning name for a start and a great pair of legs. I'm going over to St Malo to meet David Harmon and Sean Kelly for stage 2 of the tour - both Ricco Fans incidentally. I just hope Sean goes easy on the Muscadet this time. Last time we were in Brittany he ended up dancing on a table with Lars Bak. No harm done though.
What has Ricco ever done?
