MOSCOW (AFP) - Russia's WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev plans an autumn fight with Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, holder of the heavyweight belt in the rival WBO, RIA Novosti news agency reported on Wednesday.

"I have reached agreement with Klitschko and we really want to meet, we have been talking about the end of September or October," Valuev said.

The clash of the titans would be subject to agreement by promoters and the boxing organisations, he added.

"I was delighted when Nikolai called to say he wanted the fight," said 37-year-old Vitali Klitschko, who gained the WBC title last year from Nigerian Samuel Peter.

The Ukrainian's 33-year-old younger brother Vladimir retained his IBF and WBO titles after stopping challenger Ruslan Chagaev of Uzbekhistan with a tenth-round technical knock-out at Gelsenkirchen in Germany last weekend.

Now only the WBA belt held by Valuev eludes the brothers from Kiev.

  2. yeah I agree mate, the alphabet titles have diminished the sport. The ring entrances of Hamed were just embaressing but unfortunatley it's part of the modern game's marketing.I used to love to see Tyson walking in,no fancy gowns or gimmicks, just all black shorts and boots looked like a throw back to the days of Jack Dempsy, great stuff.

  3. It would be good for boxing and for valuev and klitschko to see whos best.maybe in an ideal world we could go back to one champ at each weight, but i doubt that very much.i have drifted away from being boxing mad beceause i couldnt put up with big ring entrances and so called title fights by boxers who had a few easy fights, the over rated chinny khaan, and mouthy haye are good examples of that.No hype ,fewer titles ,and back to a few good boxers being champs, may be more people would pay to watch.
