FA Cup - Brown fined for Riley rant

Eurosport - Wed, 24 Jun 18:51:00 2009

Hull manager Phil Brown has been fined £2,500 for improper conduct for comments made about Mike Riley after the FA Cup defeat at Arsenal in March.

FOOTBALL Hull manager Phil Brown, fined £2,500 by the FA for comments about referee Mike Riley following an FA Cup match against Arsenal - 0

Brown had denied the charge. But it was found proven at an FA regulatory commission hearing and he was also warned about his future conduct.

The match was one of the most controversial of last season - afterwards Hull accused Cesc Fabregas of spitting at assistant manager Brian Horton, although the Arsenal captain was cleared by the FA after he too was charged with improper conduct.

The FA said in a statement: "At a regulatory commission hearing, Hull City manager Phil Brown was fined £2,500.

"Brown denied a charge of improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute in relation to media comments concerning the referee Mike Riley, made following Hull's FA Cup tie against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 17 March.

"At the hearing, Brown was fined and warned as to his future conduct."

  2. Sir Alex ALWAYS blames the refs for something when they lose. The only time he didn't was the Champion's League Final when Man U played so horrible that EVERYONE knew they weren't the better team. It's never Man U's fault - it's the ref didn't award four penalties for Ronaldo's diving, but then the ref shouldn't award againist Man U (I'd like to see that ratio of penalties over a season)....FA calls for respect, but they only dog the little guys....glad to see Ferguson in the stands for at least one match last year...should have been more!!
