Roque Santa Cruz is confident Manchester City are showing enough ambition to break into the top four, but do you agree?
The Paraguayan has joined Gareth Barry in signing for the Eastlands outfit, and with Carlos Tevez reportedly close to becoming a City player, the future appears to be bright for Mark Hughes's side.
But does the club have what it takes to finally break the Big Four? If so, when? Can City's mega-rich owners expect an instant return on their investments, or will they have to be patient?
Hughes certainly has the financial clout to compete with any club in the world, but is that enough?
It remains to be seen how these new recruits gel and with the likes of Robinho and Elano still at the club, might there be further problems in the dressing room next season?
What do you think? Have your say below or on the message board forums via the link underneath the photo.
This is what you've been saying already:
Ben: "Man City are now steeped in class in every department¬ from best goalie in the world to best forwards, you¬ have to have all that class in the team to win a¬ premiership title."
yip: "I think they are looking good now. Looks like they will¬ sign Tevez then once they buy a centre-back they are¬ sorted."
Isaac: "(Santa Cruz is) another disappointed signing. Will end up just like¬ Bellamy. What a waste of money. Strengthen the¬ defence, that's where City are really weak."

Chelsea were the last team to buy the league and they brought in a lot of players new players over 2 seasons. Cech, Carvalho, Bridge, ferriera, geremi, Johnson, Makele, duff, Cole, Drogba and Robben. They even got rid of some under permformers after the first season such as mutu, crespo and veron. Compare that to Robinho SWP, Barry, Santa Cruz and Bellamy and Tevez. Some great players but wheres the defence?
City have to deliver now for the 1 st time in years! Beating Man United in their cup final is not good enough.lets see how long it is before they turn on Hughes.
man city wont break in the top 4 yet as long they got mark hughes in charge.
WHAT A LOAD OF JELOUSE @#$% YOU ARE
CTID
They could have the best players in the World but would never be top 4 with the muppet in charge
No. We are a top10 team atm...but it is mightily encouraging to see that the squad has been strengthened, with more to come i hope.
The only thing that keeps the Top4 in place is the amount spent on the squad over several seasons. When City continue to lure top quality players over a few seasons, then the chances of breaking into the Top4 will come. We can outspend almost every club bearing in mind that United have recieved about 200mil in the last months (50 mil for CL, 50mil TV rights, 35mil for the league, 60 mil for Cron...and the list goes on).
Liverpool and Arsenal can't keep up with the spending power of City and will eventually be overtaken. Its only a matter of time.
Man City are just all talk
and dr_vongise1 riikard has signed for galatasary not long ago
City fans should just get real and face the fact that they won't break into the top 4
and Utd fans should face the fact that the league is coming home to anfeild this season because man u players are eether too old, or not old enough to win the EPL
It's laughable that Utd fans think they are goin to dominate the EPL for years, Liverpool and Chelsea will share the next 5-6 titles
Man City should Get a Good Manager (Rikaard)will do,or @#$% Advocat
city fans getting carried away again,we will not finish in the top 6 as usual
Could be, but only if they acquire a 'top four' manager!
rexy comment 77 wake up...u still dreaming.
if city keep building the way they are tho, and they keep hughes then breaking into top 4, breaking into a title race is only a matter of time.
lots of people think utd will slip this year, its a laugh really but we will see, losing ronaldo is a big loss, no hiding but we have more than just ronaldo.. I honestly think utd will come into this season fighting, no complacencey this year becasue everyone thinks we are down.... chelsea are ageing but i think they still have skill and liverpool may still lose key players but they are still the top 3 teams for me... arsenal for me are the weak link, they still may lose players as well and if they lose even one midfielder they are in trouble... and then city who I think will be with arsenal for most of the year.. city will have the squad but may need time to mesh, arsenal are meshed but dont have the squad, so forth spot will be a 2 horse race.... but then again ya never know do ya.
rocky is an injury awaiting to happen the only answer is hughes out, john
Osas, Well i dont think Man City can break into that big four spot next season. Aston Villa tried it last season but it doesnt work, so i dont think man city can do either.
man city have the money, the manager and they might have the players but money needs to be spent wisely, the manager who has never managed a big club or big players needs to up his game and the players need to gel.
I dont think that is going to happen. They are trying to be the next chelsea which is way of as chelsea had a decent team to start of with and were in the champions league. I think results arent gona go man citys way and mark hughes is gona get sacked the players arent gona gel and city will finnish at best 7th.
as a player i would rather go to any other team than go to man city because people will be expecting too much from you at man city.
cruz is a good player but his not gona get 20 goals, as for robinho he is good but players got see what he can do and will deal with easy. teves would be crazy to join man city rather than chelsea were he will be very explosive.
No, no offence, but i do not think that Mark Hughes has the capability to take city to the top. They have so much money going on players that aren't worth it. Spend it on a wage for a decent manager! (Harry Redknapp would do best)
I'd like to see Man C do well. I have a feeling though that it's a bit soon for them yet. We shall see!
COYS.
Get real, you stupid ManUtd fans... Forget about the EPL... You have no chance next season.
You're not only losing CRon and Tevez but also Giggs and Scholes coz they are just way too old and slow...
You also have an 80y.o. keeper in Van Der Sar...
Then of course Neville is no longer useful while Hargreaves and Brown are injured 4ever...
And who's going to be your backup striker? that Macheda guy again?
As of right now, your line-up looks like this:
VDS
Da Silva, Vidic, Rio, Evra
Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson
Rooney, Berbatov
Bench: Giggs, Scholes, O'Shea, Park, Neville
You know what? Your midfield simply sucks and doesn't scare anyone.
Check this out:
Liverpool: Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Riera, Kuyt, Benayoun
Chelsea: Lampard, Essien, Obi, Ballack, Malouda, J.Cole
Arsenal: Fabregas, Nasri, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson, Rosicky
ManCity: Ireland, SWP, Barry, Elano, De Jong, Kompany, Petrov
NOW...
IF SAF can buy BOTH Ribery and Benzema.
AND IF both gel quickly.
AND IF Berbatov becomes a lot better.
AND IF this Brazilian Douglas guy is the really the next Ronaldinho.
AND IF Nani and Tosic grow up.
AND IF Hargreaves comes back strong and everyone else stays healthy.
AND IF you are lucky something happens to the other teams through injuries or transfers,
THEN maybe you have a chance to win EPL again.
Otherwise, concentrate on maintaining your top 4 position because as of right now it seems you are at best a 3rd-4th place team, and ManCity is already strong enough to challenge. Mind you that you can keep on talking about that 80mil but the truth is even at this point, ManCity still has definitely WAY MORE than 80mil to spend.
they're not a top four club yet but they could be in a few years. first, to attract the highest quality players they need to win something, and since city aren't even in europe the coming season, that will take some time IMO. the top 4 will not change next season.
