Joe Anyon has signed a 12-month deal with Port Vale and wants to convince new manager Mickey Adams is the number one goalkeeper at Vale Park.
The 22-year-old made 39 appearances last season, but is taking nothing for granted as he prepares for pre-season training.
Anyon told the official website: "I've just got to keep going and keep working hard.
"I know Chris Martin and Danny Lloyd-Weston are going to have an edge towards the games, so I have to come back with a positive frame of mind and do well.
"Next season will be a big year for me and a big test of character."
