Brown: I'll be fit for qualifiers

Wed 24 Jun, 11:48 AM

Scott Brown insists he will be fit in time for Celtic's first Champions League qualifier despite undergoing minor ankle surgery on Monday.

The Scotland midfielder, 23, had to cancel a holiday in Dubai to have an operation on the injury that hampered him throughout the final weeks of last season.

"It seems some people want to do a bit of scaremongering but the medical staff are confident I'll be ready to play in the qualifiers," he told the Daily Record.

One report claimed that Brown was in serious danger of missing the first qualifying round at the end of July.

But Brown is confident of helping new boss Tony Mowbray get his reign at Celtic off to a flying start.

He added: "I had the operation on Monday night and although it feels pretty sore right now I've been told I'll be back training next week and I should be able to sprint again in a little less than four weeks from now.

"I'm a fit lad anyway so I see no reason why I should miss the start of the season. "It wasn't a major operation - just keyhole stuff, nothing much more than a clear-up. "I was in a bit of pain at the end of the season and I needed injections to play the last few games.

"I suppose that hasn't really helped me in the long run because I've had to go under the knife.

"But I'm desperate to play my part in these qualifiers and to help the manager get off to the best possible start."

  4. Pt16...hes prob seen more of Brown than Thomson this year...70 odd appearances for the gers and 3 goals

  5. Thompson is nowhere near Broonie's talents - You need to stay oot the sunshine...
Broonie wins a ball back, he can find a good pass - Not always side passes - And he gets forward to help the attack - And all for 90 minutes. His fitness levels at least, blows the pish oot of Thompson.
He had a tough season and wee Chesney never knew how to get the most from him... Like Sherbet says, different management could make the boy a real star.

  8. Pt14...Is that why Brown cost twice as much as Thomson then??

    From stub1, on Thu 25 Jun 2:46PM
  9. Thompson is twice the player he is. He does not hack to f.u.k or pass to the other team or sideways. What does brown actually do?

  10. Tommy, go to My Yahoo at the top left of the page... On the Quick links at the side, go to the bottom and click more yahoo services... You'll get a yahoo a to z.... Click profiles and your own profile comes up and just upload yer pic onto the frame... That's how I did mine.

Paul G, I thought you were getting better? Seriously, how can you say Scott Brown is a weak link? The fact that the daily ranger are scaremongering shows that even they think he is an indespensible part of the team. If rangers had the money then they would have been in for him too - Would you have said he was a weak link then? He is head and shoulders above any player at greyskull.

He wont be back in time. The board have got to let that statement out to give you some hope. I hope he is fit in time because he will cause all sorts of problems for celtic as he wont be going in for challenges, passing to the other team "as normal", passing sideways "as normal". He is celtics weak link now that naka noodles is away.
