Burnley close in on Mears

Wed 24 Jun, 04:04 PM

Burnley have had a bid accepted for Derby defender Tyrone Mears.

The 26-year-old, who had a successful loan spell at Marseille last season, had also been linked with Portsmouth.

Mears will now meet with Clarets officials to discuss the possible move to the Barclays Premier League newcomers in due course.

Burnley boss Owen Coyle said: "The two clubs have agreed a fee and talks with a view to making the transfer permanent will take place when the player and his representative return from holiday."

  1. You miss understand me Helen or perhaps I didn't make myself clear, we will be punished in the Premieship if we continue to throw away opportunities like for example Sheff Utd Burnley will always do what Burnley do (at corporate level) and that is make money to survive or dont spend it wisely and blame every body else. Speculate to accumalate and we need a striker not another defender that may cramp Clark Carlisle who is excellent!!Barry is not going to be flash with the cash I can assure you. Maybe OC knows this and scouts are around for Clarke?? Did you see him get beat to the ball last season??

I would like to see Michael Owen at the turf IF he could produce one touch wonders with the pace he used to have, I think he would be ideal support with Patterson. On a free tansfer or loan spell. Not sure he would have the heart for it, only a thought.

As for Arsenal and Utd comment I followed Burnley through 35 years constantly and have critised and applauded, and the difference being at the level and money paid to these top flight managers and with the budget (or not) given to them to spend on players they deserve to be critised when failing to produce silver.... Just my own opinion.

  3. Forget Tyrone Mears get bidding for Kyle Naughton, very young fullback, we have 60million to blow so spend 5m on him?

  4. I agree with you Helen. Plus the article states that even though Derby loaned him out, he had a succesfull season for Marseille.
Although I also agree with claretman72 on needing a more potent goalscorer, because the amount of chances we had to finish off Sheffield United in the final but didnt, would be punished in the Premier League.

Maybe we could go for Drogba, as we have already thrown cash his way.

  5. now,now children- if hes not an honest grafter he wont be signed- maybe owen sees something he can build on-maybe bringing out an unfullfilled potential- either way we need central defence cover and a couple of fullbacks!

  6. You question him, and then call him a genius??? I guess if you were an Arsenal fan, you would be one of those calling for Wengers head now, or Man U, when Fergie had not won the league in a couple of seasons.

  7. Why buy a player that has been out on loan EVERYWHERE and never had any interest shown in him, OC we need a top rate one touch striker, how many lost chances did we miss last season where no one could finish on an open goal. Why is the figure undisclosed? Hope he's bloody cheap even with hi Int'l experience!!

That being said you are a genius!!
